Labor Disputes
Labor disputes involve legal disputes between employees and employers arising from issues such as working conditions, wages, discrimination, and work safety.
Practice Areas
We provide a variety of labor dispute litigation services and legal support
- Wage and hour disputes: including issues such as wage payment, overtime pay, minimum wage, and improper wage deductions.
- Discrimination and harassment: including gender discrimination, racial discrimination, sexual harassment, etc., which are protected by the Civil Rights Act, the Equal Pay Act, etc., and employees can complain to or file a lawsuit against their employers.
- Dismissal and layoffs: Unfair dismissal is a common labor dispute, and employers generally cannot dismiss employees without cause. Some states also implement an “at-will employment” policy, that is, employers and employees can terminate labor contracts at any time, but there are also legal provisions to protect employees from being dismissed without cause.
- Unions and collective bargaining: If employees form a union or participate in collective bargaining, they may have disputes with their employers involving wages, working conditions and benefits.
- Safety and health: Involving occupational safety and health, especially workplace safety standards and workers’ compensation issues.
